Crude oil accounts for about a third of India's overall imports by value. Access to cheap Russian oil enabled India to cut imports from the Middle East, where prices strengthened following Saudi Arabia's voluntary additional supply cuts since July. India imported 69.06 million metric tons of Russian oil, equivalent to 1.85 million barrels per day (bpd), between January and September, commerce ministry data showed, including Russian oil imported from South Korea, Greece and Spain through transshipments. Ukraine shared dramatic footage of soldiers apparently surviving a blast that hit a US-supplied Humvee. The video shows the inside of the vehicle suddenly engulfed in flames and smoke. In a tweet sharing the footage, the Ukrainian ministry thanked the US for the vehicle, saying: "Your Humvees save the lives of our soldiers." The Humvee's turret operator is seen exiting the humvee amid clouds of smoke, apparently unharmed, in footage shared on August 16, 2023. Ukrainian officials have previously praised the life-preserving qualities of speedy, robust military vehicles that have been donated by the US.

Two Russian T-72 tanks were taken out by a single US-supplied Bradley IFV, Ukraine says. Ukraine's deputy defense minister said the tanks were set aflame by the Bradley's anti-tank missiles. Ukraine is keen to demonstrate to Western allies how it is putting their military aid to good use. She said the vehicle took a direct hit from a Russian Grad rocket system — but was tough enough to keep going, while protecting everyone inside. "If we were using some Soviet armored personnel carrier we would all probably be dead after the first hit."

Ukrainian soldiers said their lives were saved by the US-supplied Bradley IFVs they were riding in. One soldier said that if they were in a Soviet carrier "we would all probably be dead after the first hit." The soldiers are part of Ukraine's 47th brigade, according to ABC News, which is fighting near Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine. The US has sent 109 Bradleys to Ukraine, and this month pledged to send 30 more. While Ukraine is getting modern weapons and ammunition from Western partners, many Ukrainian soldiers still have to rely on Soviet-era weaponry.

The bangs of outgoing artillery and mortar rounds cut through the tranquillity of abandoned fields. But like the long waits of the soldiers, the Ukrainian counteroffensive is a slow grind. As soon as the 120-mm American-made mortar rounds were delivered, they were cleaned and prepared for firing. KHERSON, Ukraine, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Vladyslav Antoniuk felt euphoric three months ago when he returned to his home city Kherson, the day Ukrainian troops rolled back in and jubilant residents waved blue and yellow flags in the main square to celebrate. Russian soldiers, who retreated just across the Dnipro River, have not been pushed back further and are pummelling the city daily with artillery. On Wednesday, Russian shells hit a bus stop in the city centre, killing six people and wounding a dozen. He said his administration evacuates about 100 people from the city daily on trains and buses on a voluntary basis. Around 70% of January cargoes of Urals oil are heading to India, according to traders' data and Reuters calculations. India has been a top buyer of the Russian grade for several months now, filling the void left by EU buyers. In December India's oil imports jumped to a five-month record amid active buying of the Russian oil. Russia loaded 4.7 million tonnes of Urals and KEBCO from Baltic ports in December, traders said and Refinitiv data showed. Last year Kazakhstan changed the name of the oil it exports via Russian sea ports, from Urals to Kazakhstan Export Blend Crude Oil (KEBCO), dissociating it from oil originating in Russia to avoid sanction risks and issues with financing.

The ban is likely to create a diesel supply shortfall that Europe hopes to fill with Chinese fuel, some of which will be produced from Russian crude. China has raised its first batch of 2023 export quotas for refined oil products by nearly half from a year ago. "But without Chinese exports pushing swing barrels westward, Europe is unlikely to replace the 0.5 million bpd loss in Russian diesel exports come the embargo," Energy Aspects analysts said. Russia has long been the main diesel supplier for Europe, where refineries do not produce enough to meet domestic demand from its large diesel car fleet.
